Dec. 18 – Romans 6:11
Hello and thanks for joining in on to today’s daily devotion. Today is Friday Dec. 18th. The 6th day of the Hebraic week.
Our verse today is Rom. 6:11
In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.
Back in the day when I was a youth pastor, I had a great friend who helped in the ministry as one of our youth leaders. This verse became a favorite for both of us. We’d actually call each other’s answering machines every once in while and left a simple message. The message consisted of only 3 words? Those three words were, “Bang. Your dead.”
It was our way of reminding each other to count ourselves dead as this verse says. To count ourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Yeshua. We all need those reminders. Sinful desires will always look for opportunity and we have to constantly beat those desires down. Doesn’t matter how young or old we are or how mature we may think we are, overcoming the sinful nature is a daily job.
Counting yourself dead to sin is making yourself just that, dead to sin. When temptation comes your way, it should be as if you have no emotion to it. Your dead. Thus, rendering the temptation as no temptation at all.
We are to be dead to sin and alive to God in Yeshua. To walk in the ways that He walked. To live the way He lived. Consider even the following two verses.
So, again, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Yeshua.
Let this be a focus in your time of meditation throughout the day. Until tomorrow, shalom!
