Evil – Genesis 6:5

Welcome to Scriptures for Life with TorahFamily.org. Taking time to focus on the Father’s way.

Genesis 6:5
YHWH saw how great man’s wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time.

I’ve heard it said how we are a long way from having the world in that condition again. Many will say that the world today, though it has it’s problems, is nothing like it was in having every inclination of the thoughts of man on evil all the time.

In one perspective, that could seem true. However, maybe we need to define “evil” as the Bible describes it. The word for evil there is “ra”. It’s also used here.

Exodus 32:22
“Do not be angry, my lord,” Aaron answered. “You know how prone these people are to evil(ra).”
Numbers 32:13
YHWH’s anger burned against Israel and he made them wander in the desert forty years, until the whole generation of those who had done evil(ra) in his sight was gone.

Both cases here show disobedience. Thus, it would seem disobedience can be implied as “evil” to YHWH. In that perspective, is the world full of evil?

Let this be a focus in your time of meditation throughout the day. Until next time, shalom!
