Matthew 10:16 – Animal Kingdom (May 13)
Hello and thanks for joining in on to today’s daily devotion. Today is Friday. May 13th. The 6th day of the Hebraic week.
Our verse today is Matthew 10:16.
I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.
We’ve talked about this before but this definitely puts it in a different perspective. Sheep and wolves, snakes and doves. Have you ever watched those shows where animals hunt other animals? Those that explain the order of the food chain in the animal kingdom? Wolves are pack hunters. And here Yeshua tells His disciples that they are like sheep and He’s sending them out among wolves. I wouldn’t exactly call those “encouraging words” to his disciples. However, they were indeed words of reality.
All too often people want to be patted on the back and told how good they are. They want to hear how good life is going to be and how all is going to go their way. But Yeshua doesn’t do that. He called it straight like it was. Because of that, we have to ask ourselves, how do we go out everyday? Do we go out with the mindset that we are surrounded by wolves and we’re the prey?
Do we wake up in the mornings and say to ourselves “Be shrewd as a snake and as innocent as a dove?” If not, why not? And if not, where do we think we’ll land in the food chain?
Let this be a focus in your time of meditation throughout the day. Until tomorrow, shalom!
