1 Corinthians 9:26,27 – Disqualified (May 2)

Hello and thanks for joining in on to today’s daily devotion. Today is Monday. May 2nd. The 2nd day of the Hebraic week.

Our verses today are 1 Corinthians 9:26,27.

26 Therefore I do not run like a man running aimlessly; I do not fight like a man beating the air. 27 No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.

Continuing from our devotion yesterday, we see Paul here discussing his attitude and aim in life. I love how Paul says he makes his body his slave. Meaning, he does not submit to the desires of the flesh but rather makes his body submit to his desire in following the Spirit.

In all of this, I find its the purpose as to why he does this so eye opening. Listen to verse 27 again.

27 No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.

Paul new that just because he preached the good news, because he traveled all over for the cause, because he suffered for the name, that it did not guarantee him a place in the kingdom.

Just because you are doing a lot of good things for the Kingdom, even preaching the good news, it does not mean that you cannot be disqualified by other elements that may be in your life.

Do you submit to the flesh? Or do you make it submit to you? Your answer may reveal if you are on course to be disqualified or not.

Let this be a focus in your time of meditation throughout the day. Until tomorrow, shalom!
