1 Peter 2:1 – Deceit (July 11)

Hello and thanks for joining in on to today’s daily devotion. Today is Monday. July 11th. The 2nd day of the Hebraic week.

Our verse today is 1 Peter 2:1.

1 Peter 2:1
Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of very kind.

It all sounds simple and easy right? That’s how many of us read this verse and just glance right over it. Today, lets focus on the second item mentioned. That being deceit. Now, nobody wants to
think they are a deceiver. And hopefully we aren’t one. However, have you ever pondered this before? Have you ever deceived someone before. I’m talking about deceiving someone for the purpose of hiding the truth. That’s what we are talking about here.

I say that because in 1 Kings chapter 20 starting at verse 37 we see a prophet who deceives the king but only to reveal the truth immediately after. Yet, when one deceives to cover something they don’t want revealed, well, that’s a different story.

For example, let’s say someone calls you at home. Someone else answers the phone but it’s someone you really don’t want to talk to. You race to the bathroom and step into the tub. You then say “Tell them I’m in the tub.” Were you in the tub? Yes. Were you taking a bath? No. So did you deceive? Yes.

Let this be a focus in your time of meditation throughout the day. Until tomorrow, shalom!
