1 Thessalonians 4:11 – Not Relevant? (August 18)

Hello and thanks for joining in on to today’s daily devotion. Today is Thursday. August 18th. The fifth day of the Hebraic week.

Our verse today is 1 Thessalonians 4:11.

1 Thessalonians 4:11
Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your hands, just as we told you, 12 so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody.

We see three things here that we should strive for. Lead a quiet life, mind your own business and work with your hands. All three are given so we can win respect of outsiders. And all three are just as applicable today as when this was first written.

I’ve heard many time times by unbelievers that the Bible is an outdated book. That it just doesn’t apply today. Yet, when I look at this verse, I can’t help but think how the scriptures really are timeless.

While we’re to lead a quiet life, the world’s pace is constantly gaining speed with sin shouting louder than ever before on every corner. While we’re minding our own business, it seems everybody wants to put their “2 cents” on everybody else’s. So tell me again how the Bible is not relevant.

Let this be a focus in your time of meditation throughout the day. Until tomorrow, shalom!
