2 Corinthians 7:10 – Which Sorrow? (May 19)

Hello and thanks for joining in on to today’s daily devotion. Today is Thursday. May 19th. The 5th day of the Hebraic week.

Our verse today is 2 Corinthians 7:10

10 Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death.

Godly sorrow verses worldly sorrow. One brings salvation and the other brings death. Other than the results, what’s the difference between these two?

Have you ever had someone say the words “I’m Sorry” to you before? Did you believe them? I ask because, let’s face it, there are times when it seems you can read right through a person and you can tell if they really mean what they are saying. You’ve been there right? Surely I’m not the only one who has struggled with this before.

It’s like the child that got in trouble and was made to say “Sorry.” So were they truly sorry or just sorry that they got caught? There is a difference.

It would seem that one who has Godly sorrow is one who truly strives for change. Yet, the one who has worldly sorrow is only going through the motions. Our verse says that Godly sorrow bring repentance. That means change. To turn from that way of life and go in another direction. Yet, it would seem that worldly sorrow brings no change. It’s only lip service if you will.

So, the question we need to ask ourselves is “Which sorrow do we have?” Has there been change in that area of your life? Or are you just talking?

Let this be a focus in your time of meditation throughout the day. Until tomorrow, shalom!
