2 Peter 3:8 – Hold on Loosely (May 9)
Hello and thanks for joining in on to today’s daily devotion. Today is Monday. May 9th. The 2nd day of the Hebraic week.
Our verse today is 2 Peter 3:8.
But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.
Now we know that the surrounding text here is talking about the end times and so much that surrounds that time frame. However, have you ever wondered where Peter is getting this idea regarding time? He actually is getting it from the Psalms. Specifically Psalm 90:4. It says…
For a thousand years in your sight are like a day that has just gone by, or like a watch in the night.
Virtually the whole chapter of Psalm 90 is talking about time and how it’s here and then gone. In fact, it’s in this chapter where we recently talked about numbering our days. Making them count.
This life we live in the physical is truly just a drop in the ocean in the scope of eternity. Things that we hold to with a firm grip are just as fleeting, if not more, than us. What are you investing into? What are you holding on to? The things of this world are truly temporary. May we never forget this. In fact, may it be the reminder that we need to hold on to this life ever so loosely.
Let this be a focus in your time of meditation throughout the day. Until tomorrow, shalom!
