1 Samuel 13:13,14 – Acting Foolishly (May 6)

Hello and thanks for joining in on to today’s daily devotion. Today is Friday. May 6th. The 6th day of the Hebraic week.

Our verses today is 1 Samuel 13:13,14.

1 Samuel 13:13
“You acted foolishly,” Samuel said. “You have not kept the command YHWH your God gave you; if you had, he would have established your kingdom over Israel for all time. 14 But now your kingdom will not endure; YHWH has sought out a man after his own heart and appointed him leader of his people, because you have not kept YHWH’s command.”

The last two days we have briefly talked about Saul and David. This verse really brings it all together. It takes place right after Saul gets impatient in waiting on Samuel and chooses to make a sacrifice on his own. Something he knew he was not supposed to do.

Then, when Samuel arrives, he says these words to Saul “You acted foolishly,” His actions are what got him kicked out of office. Actions that he knew better on. And then we see in verse 14 “YHWH has sought out a man after his own heart.”

It’s in the heart where our actions begin. Thus, He chose David. Someone who had a heart to serve. Someone who had a heart to do what was right and was willing and ready to DO that which was right. What is YHWH pricking your heart on? Something in your life you know He wants you to obey in. What is hidden deep inside of you that YHWH is saying ‘It’s time to obey?” Please, don’t act foolishly.

Let this be a focus in your time of meditation throughout the day. Until tomorrow, shalom!
