July 1 – Philippians 4:11 – Things

Hello and thanks for joining in on to today’s daily devotion. Today is Friday. July 1st. The 6th
day of the Hebraic week.

Our verse today is Philippians 4:11.

I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances.

What a powerful thing to learn. To be content whatever the circumstances we are in. Can you say
you are able to be that? It’s a lot easier said than done isn’t it? It really is. But why is that the
case? Why is it so hard to be content at times?

If we think about it for just a little, it’s really not that hard to see why. We are surrounded by a
world that is consumed with having things. We are surrounded by a world that focuses on having
the next cool gadget. We are surrounded by a world that focuses on having the “nice things” in
life. A world that tells us we won’t be happy unless we get whatever it is they are advertising.

As you have heard me say before, it’s not that having things is wrong. The problem is when we
make those things our focus. When we make living the righteous life our focus, it really is a lot
easier to be content with what we have. Why? Because that’s when we remember that the things
of this world is just that. Things.

Let this be a focus in your time of meditation throughout the day. Until tomorrow, shalom!
