Purify – 1 John 3:2-4

Welcome to Scriptures for Life with TorahFamily.org. Taking time to focus on the Father’s way.

1 John 3:2
Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. 3 Everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as he is pure. 4 Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness.

“Everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself.” Making it into the kingdom is not just about believing. James tells us that the demons believe and tremble. No. We have to purify ourselves. The big question is “What do we purify ourselves from?” Well, verse 4 let’s us know.

4 Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness.

We have to purify ourselves from lawlessness. From breaking the law. But some might say “We can’t keep the law. There is no temple.” But that didn’t keep the Jews from obeying what they could when they were banished to Babylon.

Obey what you can. John made it clear. Sin is breaking the law.

Let this be a focus in your time of meditation throughout the day. Until next time, shalom!
