Acts 9:10 – Common Sense vs. Obedience (April 1)
Hello and thanks for joining in on to today’s daily devotion. Today is Friday. April 1st. The 6th day of the Hebraic week.
Our verse today is Acts 9:10.
In Damascus there was a disciple named Ananias. The Lord called to him in a vision, “Ananias!” “Yes, Lord,” he answered.
I love this story. In fact, to get the gravity of what is happening to this man Ananias, let’s read the verses following our text.
The Lord told him, “Go to the house of Judas on Straight Street and ask for a man from Tarsus named Saul, for he is praying. 12 In a vision he has seen a man named Ananias come and place his hands on him to restore his sight.”
“Lord,” Ananias answered, “I have heard many reports about this man and all the harm he has done to your saints in Jerusalem. 14 And he has come here with authority from the chief priests to arrest all who call on your name.”
Think of it this way, this almost like telling a Jew to go reach out to Hitler while he was in the middle of persecuting the Jews. This was no easy task for Ananias. You can easily understand why he was hesitant. Common sense would say “That’s just crazy!” Yet, YHWH is not calling us to be common. He’s calling us to obey. And that is what Ananias did.
What is YHWH calling you to do that common sense has kept you from all this time? Ananias’ obedience resulted in 2/3 of the New Testament being written. Just imagine what your obedience can result in.
Let this be a focus in your time of meditation throughout the day. Until tomorrow, shalom!
