Following the Spirit – Romans 8:6-8

Welcome to Scriptures for Life with TorahFamily.org. Taking time to focus on the Father’s way.

Romans 8: 6
The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace; 7 the sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. 8 Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God.

Being brought up in a Pentecostal Church, I heard many messages about following the Spirit. But I have to tell ya, this verse never came up once. Take a look at this verse. It shows that we have either a mind that is controlled by the Spirit or a mind that is sinful. It’s one or the other. Sounds drastic doesn’t it?

But here’s the kicker, verse 7 says that the sinful mind does not submit the God’s law, neither can it do so. If the sinful mind does not submit to God’s law, what does that tell us about the mind controlled by the Spirit? It tells us that it does submit to God’s law. It’s one or the other.

So, do you submit to God’s law? Are you following the Spirit?

Let this be a focus in your time of meditation throughout the day. Until next time, shalom!
