James 4:4 – Enemies (June 10)

Hello and thanks for joining in on to today’s daily devotion. Today is Friday. June 10th. The 6th day of the Hebraic week.

Our verse today is James 4:4.

James 4:4
You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world is hatred toward God? Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.

OK… I want to read this one more time just make sure we are clear on it.

“You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world is hatred toward God? Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.”

James is calling it as it is. Sin is sin. Now, the question is “Who is James talking to here?” Consider James 1:1.

James 1:1
James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, To the twelve tribes scattered among the nations: Greetings.

He talking to Believers. So a believer can be an enemy of YHWH. That’s right. You may claim to be a believer and that’s great. Yet, it seems that the greater question is “Are you a friend of the world?” How close to the world are you walking? Are there things from the world in your life that opposes the Word of YHWH?

This is something we can’t just breeze over. Our verse is talking directly to believers. So, is it talking to you?

“You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world is hatred toward God? Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.”

Let this be a focus in your time of meditation throughout the day. Until tomorrow, shalom!
