James 1:19, 20 – Which Anger? (June 15)
Hello and thanks for joining in on to today’s daily devotion. Today is Wednesday. June 15th. The 4th day of the Hebraic week.
Our verses today are James 1:19, 20.
My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, 20 for man’s anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires.
Slow to speak and slow to become angry. That can be a task in itself, right? Yet, I believe the greater element in these two verses to look at is found in verse 20. “For man’s anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires.” Notice that is doesn’t say “Anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires.” It says “man’s anger.”
We obviously know that Yeshua was angry in the Temple when turning over the tables. Yet, that wasn’t “man’s anger.” That was a righteous indignation. Meaning an anger that is founded from YHWH’s word.
We should always do our best in not letting our anger get the best of us. Our anger will only bring us down. It will bring forth feelings that focuses on self. Yet, even if one wants to say that their anger is founded in the scriptures, we need to make sure that is a valid point.
Then if one counters your point with another scripture, we are suddenly faced with a difference of opinion on interpretation. Let’s face it, Yeshua knew the proper interpretation of the scriptures. There was no refuting Him. Those who tried only made a fool of themselves.
Yet, we don’t know all the proper interpretations like Him. So what’s my point? Be cautious in your anger. If it’s “man’s anger” get rid of it. If you think it’s a righteous indignation, be cautious. Your not perfect.
