Lining Up – Genesis 38:11

Welcome to Scriptures for Life with TorahFamily.org. Taking time to focus on the Father’s way.

Genesis 38:11
Judah then said to his daughter-in-law Tamar, “Live as a widow in your father’s house until my son Shelah grows up.” For he thought, “He may die too, just like his brothers.” So Tamar went to live in her father’s house.

This takes place just after Judah’s first two sons had died without providing children for Tamar. Judah told Tamar to go and live as a widow at her fathers house. He made it sound like he would contact her when his youngest son was of age. Yet, his thoughts to himself made it clear he had no intentions of doing what he said. He never intended to give his youngest son to her.

We find later that this ends up backfiring on him as Tamar gets the last word. Maybe this is to be an example to all of us. Telling people one thing but intending not to follow through with those words is not an example we should follow. Do your intentions and actions line up together? Shouldn’t they?

Let this be a focus in your time of meditation throughout the day. Until next time, shalom!
