March 26

Hello and thanks for joining in on to today’s daily devotion. Today is Saturday. March 26th. The 7th day of the Hebraic week. And everybody says “HalleluYah!”

Our verse today is 1 Samuel 15:23.

1 Samuel 15:23
For rebellion is like the sin of divination, and arrogance like the evil of idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of YHWH, he has rejected you as king.

This is from the event when King Saul disobeyed the Word of YHWH that came through the prophet Samuel on the instructions regarding the battle against the Amalekites. The command was given in verse 3, which says.

3 Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy everything that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys.

Saul did indeed fight the Amalekites and defeated them. Yet, he didn’t destroy everything. And then we read in verse 13.

1 Samuel 15:13-14
When Samuel reached him, Saul said, “YHWH bless you! I have carried out YHWH’s instructions.”

But Samuel said, “What then is this bleating of sheep in my ears? What is this lowing of cattle that I hear?”

He didn’t carry them out as given. He did what he wanted and how he wanted. It is then that we see the words of Samuel that resinate loud and clear.

“For rebellion is like the sin of divination, and arrogance like the evil of idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of YHWH, he has rejected you as king.”

Rebellion is like the sin of divination. That means in the eyes of YHWH, not obeying is likened unto the divinations of a witch. Thank about that for a minute.

Arrogance is like the evil of idolatry. That means in the eyes of YHWH, pride and egotism is equal to the bowing down to idols. Why would YHWH mention this at this time? Because verse 12 says that Saul set up a monument in His own honor.

Remember, YHWH doesn’t look at sin the way we do. He sees it for what it really is.

Let this be a focus in your time of meditation throughout the day. Until tomorrow, shalom!
