On Watch – Proverbs 8:12-14

I, wisdom, dwell together with prudence; I possess knowledge and discretion. To fear YHWH is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech. Counsel and sound judgment are mine; I have understanding and power.
According to the words of Paul in 1 Corinthians 1:30, Yeshua is wisdom. So in essence, this could be Yeshua talking here in Proverbs. Verse 12 shows us that if we have Wisdom, then prudence, knowledge, and discretion will be right there with us. The question is “How much will we have?” We are all growing at different levels and paces. And that’s why we pursue to grow in that wisdom. To grow in our walk.
Verse 13 says “To fear YHWH is to hate evil;” To hate it. Not tolerate it. Not think a little is “OK”. But to HATE it. That is what it truly means to fear YHWH.
The verse then says “I hate pride and arrogance”. Pride is the foundation to rebellion. Think about it. Someone who is full of pride is full of themselves and they are only focused on what they want. Thus, comes the rebellion. Maybe it’s time to be on watch for these things in our own lives.
