When words are many, sin is not absent, but he who holds his tongue is wise.
“When words are many…. sin is not absent.” Man, that alone speaks volumes. The more one speaks on certain topics, it can feed the imagination and one thing can lead to another.
When people bring up a topic to you that you know has potential of going down hill, the best thing is to keep your words short and to the point. Sometimes there’s just no need to elaborate.
I’ve once heard it said that YHWH gave us two ears and only one mouth for a reason. I can’t help but think of what James said in that same light.
“My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry,”
Quick to listen and slow to speak. Think about what you are going to say before you say it. I love the advice on this in Ecclesiastes.
Do not be quick with your mouth, do not be hasty in your heart to utter anything before God. God is in heaven and you are on earth, so let your words be few.
