Surpass the Pharisees – Matthew 5:20

Welcome to Scriptures for Life with TorahFamily.org. Taking time to focus on the Father’s way.

Matthew 5:20
For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.

Yeshua just declared that the Pharisee’s and teachers of the law will not be making it into the kingdom. Everybody at the time Yeshua spoke these words assumed the Pharisee’s were the holiest people living. Yet, Yeshua completely obliterates that mentality and says they won’t even be in the kingdom.

So, why did the people think what they did and why did Yeshua say the exact opposite? Because, like today, so many just blindly followed their teachers. Yet, these teachers rejected YHWH’s law.

Mark 7:9
And he said to them: “You have a fine way of setting aside the commands of God in order to observe your own traditions!”

The Greek word for “setting aside” actually means “rejecting”. And that’s what they were doing. They were rejecting YHWH’s law to observe their own traditions. It’s one thing to not know we are to follow the law, but it’s altogether different if we reject it.

Let this be a focus in your time of meditation throughout the day. Until next time, shalom!
