Wrong Example – Genesis 37:3-4

Welcome to Scriptures for Life with TorahFamily.org. Taking time to focus on the Father’s way.

Genesis 37:3
Now Israel loved Joseph more than any of his other sons, because he had been born to him in his old age; and he made a richly ornamented robe for him. 4 When his brothers saw that their father loved him more than any of them, they hated him and could not speak a kind word to him.

Favoritism. Never a good thing. It only creates strife and jealousy. Now obviously YHWH used this all for His purposes in the end. But to me, this just shows He uses us despite ourselves and not because we are something special. The patriarchs weren’t always a shining example for us. We see several times where they were giving us examples of what not to do. This text makes that pretty clear.

If ever you are tempted to show favoritism to someone, don’t. Let this part of Joseph’s life be an example in your heart of what not to do. Your action of favoritism to an individual may bring the exact opposite upon them from many others.

Let this be a focus in your time of meditation throughout the day. Until next time, shalom!
